Job Purpose:As a Deputy manager you will be responsible for supporting and work alongside the Registered Manager in the operational day to day management of our therapeutic children’s home, ensuring Summer House is fully compliant with relevant legislation and that the highest quality of care and support to our children and young people is embedded in accordance with the Company’s statement of purpose, policies, procedures and practices and the standards set by the Regulatory Body, Ofsted.

Your primary role will be to actively safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people and ensure that they are happy, healthy, safe from harm and able to develop, thrive and fulfill their potential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Safeguarding

  • You must ensure that safeguarding underpins every aspect of your practice and that of the staff teams for whom you have responsibility, and that the safety of each child in the company’s care is paramount.
  • Ensure that you keep up to date with procedures and guidance relating to safeguarding.
  • You must report any practice that may put a young person at risk immediately to your line manager, or higher if appropriate as failure to do so will leave you in a position of equal responsibility for the incident as the perpetrator.
  • Ensure that robust safeguarding procedures and principles are always in place and applied consistency.
  • To assist the Registered Manager to ensure that you and the staff team understand and implement the company’s child protection and safeguarding procedures and that they receive regular safeguarding training.

Compliance

  • To maintain a high-quality service working in partnership with colleagues to manage and promote excellent outcomes for children and young people.
  • To assist the Registered Manager to ensure the service meets the requirements and standards set out in the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.
  • To assist the Registered Manager to ensure the delivery of safe, personalised services to each child through assessment, child focused planning and regular outcome reviews of the provision.
  • To ensure that you and the staff team, work in accordance with the Statement of Purpose of the home, and that it fully reflects the requirements as described in Schedule 1 of the Children’s Home Regulations 2015.
  • To assist the Registered Manager to ensure that all Health and Safety Regulations are complied with in accordance with 24/7 Support UK Limited Services policies, procedures, and practices.
  • To promote and implement the companies Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policies and procedures. All staff are required to demonstrate their commitment to these policies in their day-to-day work and to treat others with dignity and respect.
  • At all times you are expected to set a high standard through your own conduct. You must always operate within the Children’s Home Regulations 2015 and the company’s policies and procedures.
  • You should treat children, young people, staff, and visitors with respect at all times.

Service Delivery and Development

As a Deputy Manager your primary responsibilities are to support the Registered Manager in:

  • Managing the rota to ensure there are enough suitably qualified staff on shift to meet the needs of the children and young people.
  • Compiling a home development plan in consultation with staff, children, and young people, and that it is reviewed on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that staff deliver child focused care that promotes independence, choice, and upholds dignity to empower children and young people to live as independently as possible.
  • Ensuring that risk assessments are in place for all children and young people and for all the activities they undertake.
  • To promote the practice of working in partnership with children and young people, their families, other staff within 24/7 Support UK Limited Services, and other agencies to meet the needs of children and young people.
  • To assist the Registered Manager in co-ordinating assessments and admissions of suitable referrals to the home.
  • Ensure that all new referrals are responded to in a timely manner in line with contractual and organisational timescales.
  • Identify marketing opportunities and develop a marketing plan, which maximises referral opportunities.
  • Taking the lead role in managing Regulation 44 visits and Ofsted/local authority inspections.
  • To contribute to monthly management reports and attend meetings as required.

Team Management and Leadership

  • To assist the Registered Manager to ensure staff are appropriate trained to enable them to carry out their roles effectively.
  • To carry out regular supervisions with staff as required.
  • To carry out annual appraisals for staff as required.
  • To identify recruitment needs and develop plans to ensure the service is appropriate resourced with capacity for growth and scission planning.
  • To promote a positive culture amongst staff that is based on respect for others.
  • Be involved in a range of management duties including workforce planning, recruitment and selection, training, supervision, health and safety and disciplinary/capability procedures, absence management and other staff issues with support from the Directors and HR.
  • Ensure that staff training, and development needs are identified and met.
  • Ensure systems for ensuring the health and safety for staff, children and young people are robust and understood by everyone.
  • To ensure that all staff are familiar with and work in line with 24/7 Support UK Limited’s policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicate with staff, children, and young people so that their views can be heard and where appropriate, acted upQuality on.
  • To offer advice, support, and guidance to staff at all levels.

Quality Assurance

  • To assist the Registered Manager in implementing and maintaining an effective quality assurance programme to promote high quality, best practice, and continuous improvement of services in line with 24/7 Support UK Limited quality assurance policies and carrying out regular audits.
  • To assist the Registered Manager to ensure good and safe practice in all activities for children and young people by putting systems in place to guide, monitor and evaluate care and services provided.
  • To assist the Registered Manager in resolving all complaints in accordance with 24/7 Support UK Limited’s complaints and compliments policy.
  • To assist in the evaluation of services through regular review, annual questionnaires to children, analysis of complaints and compliments as directed by the Registered Manager.

Resource Management

  • To assist in proactively managing delegated budgets ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • To regularly inspect the condition of the structure, fabric, furnishings, and fittings of the building to ensure that all necessary equipment, etc. is in good working order and of a reasonable and acceptable standard of repair as directed by the Registered Manager.
  • Ensure commitment to cost effectiveness and value for money through the monitoring and control of monthly expenditure and the early identification of any financial irregularity.
  • Ensure that the home is always cleaned to the highest standard.

Professional Practice

  • You will always provide a positive role model for the children, young people and staff presenting yourself in a highly professional manner.
  • Participate in training and take responsibility for your own personal development.
  • Be well informed and have up-to date knowledge regarding the support needs of the children and young people in your care.
  • Ensure that all members of staff understand the need to maintain high levels of confidentiality and not divulge to anyone personal and/or confidential information to which they may have access during their work.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervisions, and annual appraisals in accordance with company policy and the standards set by the Regulatory Body.
  • To undertake any other such duties as required by the Registered Manager and/or Directors, commensurate with the grade of the post.
